Today we went into the city for a walking tour of Dublin. The meeting spot was chaos until the tour guides finally separated us into groups. We were led into St. Steven’s Green and through the park. Our tour guide talked a lot about statues that are in the park dedicated to a number of Authors. Surrounding the park is a lot of governmental buildings and museums as well.
I love all the little architectural details as well as the colorful doors. It gives the city so much character.
The walking tour was rather long for a very chilly day and didn’t cover a very large area of Dublin. I hoped to make it further towards the harbor or to the North of the River Liffey. I’ll have to do that on my own. Overall, our tour was lovely and we learned about a few things to do and see.
Oscar Wilde’s statue expression is exactly how I feel about classes starting tomorrow. I have to remember this isn’t actually a semester long vacation. Oscar Wilde quotes are scattered all around the statue, here are some of my favorites:
“What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.”
I’d like to think everyone that’s called me cynical has been wrong.
“My own business always bores me to death; I prefer other people’s.”
Says the girl dedicating a whole blog page to her ‘business’. But it’s true, we all love good gossip – admit it or not.
“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.”
It’s true, Yves St Laurent even said “Fashions fade, but style is eternal.”
After the tour, we got lunch at Hippetys Cafe in the temple bar area with a few guys from Penn State. I had a wonderful pesto and sun-dried tomato sandwich with a red pepper and tomato soup and a chai latte. The soup and latte warmed me up!
It’s Sunday which means classes start tomorrow. Here comes reality.
